Success for our customers is success for us, and that goes beyond our platform. That’s what makes the verb ‘sharing’ most fitting for our community. Knowledge, insights and developments in terms of learning are great examples of what we love to share with you. But sometimes, we also like to share in a physical sense, which is what we did during the Extreme Learning Makeover last year.
Technology is developing quickly, in the field of L&D too. This means that there are tonnes of chances to step into the role of a pioneer as a trainer or training provider. Testing new learning tools is part of that.
Since not every new invention is obtainable by everyone, we also like to help our community out in this sense. Last year, we were able to give away a lightboard from Learning Glass Europe as part of a webinar. Robin Lechner was the lucky winner and she shared her experience with us.

But before you read about her experience, we would like to give you a bit of context. What makes tools like a lightboard so interesting? Let us explain. Face-to-face communication will always be crucial when it comes to teaching or explaining something. In a virtual environment (such as a virtual classroom), you often have to choose what to show in your frame: you OR your presentation and visuals. Which is a shame, because a combination of the two works great.
This happens naturally in a ‘traditional’ classroom or during physical courses. In virtual classes, it takes a bit of help, which technology offers. For instance, a video or presentation tool such as mmhmm can be used to show both your presentation and yourself in a way that you like. A lightboard is another example. With this tool, you are able to write and draw like you would do on a whiteboard.
Robin works as a Program Event Coordinator at UtrechtInc, a company that supports researchers, beginning founders of tech startups and entrepreneurial students. Do you have a scalable idea or are you experiencing challenges within a startup in the field of market validation, product optimisation, marketing or sales? Get into contact with Robin, because she knows all about it!
In 2021, she won the lightboard. Now, almost a year later, we are very curious to hear about her experience.
How is the lightboard being used? And an even more important question: is the learning tool worth the investment?
Last year, you won the lightboard. Tell us, what role does it currently play in your work as Program Event Coordinator at UtrechtInc?
“Yes, it’s amazing! We use the lightboard at online events for startups and students who want to dive into entrepreneurship. This is often during workshops.”
In what way do you think the lightboard helps people learn?
“It is a helpful tool for online sessions. Trainers can highlight the most important topics.”
What valuable feedback on the lightboard did you receive from learners so far?
“Learners especially think it’s a fun and innovative tool. We haven’t received any substantive feedback yet about how it enhances a session when we use it. That is something I’m still searching for.”
“ It is a helpful tool for online sessions. Trainers can highlight the most important topics. ”
What have the reactions been so far from colleagues who have worked with the lightboard?
“Working with it has been a fun experience. As an incubator, we are always open to innovation and optimisation.”
What do you hope to achieve in the future with the lightboard? Is there anything you want to experiment with?
“We are thinking about how we can give the tool a relevant role in our offline sessions. Currently, we use a whiteboard and slides during physical classes, but we want to figure out how we can take them to the next level with the lightboard.”
The giveaway of the lightboard was part of our Spring campaign, ‘The Extreme Learning Makeover’. The campaign focused on four themes and included over 20 blogs, podcasts, videos and whitepapers from different learning experts from the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. In 2022, it is still a source of inspiration for many training providers.
