The other day, I was working on a jigsaw puzzle with my four-year-old son. He had brought me one of his new puzzles. However, he only brought the pieces, not the actual box the puzzle came in. I found out that creating a puzzle without an idea of what to make is quite difficult.
Many customers who start with aNewSpring experience the same when they want to style the learning environment for their training courses. That’s why this blog gives many examples of the things you can create. You’ll see how you can use various look & feel features to create a training course or login screen that fits your brand.
You want the learning environment your customers will use to look & feel the same as your website (or your brand). Most online learning platforms allow you to do just that by adjusting the theme. In aNewSpring, you can adjust the way your learning environment looks quite easily without the use of complicated CSS or style sheets (which is usually the case when using a learning platform like Moodle or a WordPress-based one).
In addition, you can create various look & feel presets so that you can offer different look & feels to specific customers or segments.
Photographs are a great way to make your login screens look good. It is however important to use the right types of pictures. Make sure you use the right format, with the right colours, and select a picture that’s not too busy.

Besides using photography, you can also opt to go for videos. In aNewSpring, you can use a video to play in the background. Obviously, select a video with a limited number of transitions and make sure the video you use isn’t too crazy. Also, remember that a login box will be right in the middle of the video, so not all videos can be used.
The Practical Lawyer Online offers a great example of a very suitable video: thepracticallawyeronline.anewspring.nl
My colleague, Roy, used a video for our own Summer School training course: summerschool.anewspring.nl

Besides creating a look & feel, many customers create a trial version of their training course to try out. This is especially useful for people who want to try out your product before they buy. Compare it to going for a test drive before you buy a car. You can choose to make the trail available for everyone without asking for information, or you can make certain fields mandatory to fill in. My advice would be to not ask for info if you’re only offering a teaser of your course. You can, however, create a short course people can take for free and for which they’re willing to provide their information.
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health created a great overview of what they have to offer: cieh.anewspring.com.
The Dutch Language Institute provides a trial version for everyone to try out: https://www.nti.nl/studeren-bij-nti/demo-online-leeromgeving/.
