At aNewSpring, we are looking for a Design Lead. Your mission is to take the experience within our application, but also the design team itself, to the next level.

Are you an experienced designer looking for a new challenge? Are you a real leader ‘who leads by example’? Do you get excited about creating beautiful user experiences? Did you just say “yes” three times to your screen (and now a fourth time)? Then read on, because then we are probably looking for you.

About the company that’s all about learning

At aNewSpring, we do everything we can to make learning fun and effective. Our software for professional educators helps them create beautiful, effective and varied Learning Journeys. We work with a no-nonsense approach and believe in open, positive and respectful collaboration.

This approach allows us to continuously improve and offer our customers a better experience. And it also leads to super happy employees. How do we know? We ask them how they experience their work and what we can improve on a weekly basis. And we actually act on their suggestions.

We’ve grown from a small start-up to a fast-growing SaaS company over the past ten years, with thousands of customers and even more satisfied students. We are a Dutch company, based in Rotterdam, with offices and partners in our main regions (UK, Australia and South Africa).

How will you contribute to our mission?

Your mission is to work with your team to ensure that everything that is added or changed to the UI and UX of aNewSpring is top-notch. The look and feel, usability and accessibility should all contribute to an inspiring and pleasant online environment to work and learn in.

By translating the objectives and projects on the roadmap into detailed designs, you and your team work together with the developers to constantly bring the aNewSpring platform and app to the next level.

What will you do as Design Lead?

As a Design Lead, you will be responsible for coaching, training, expanding and improving the design team. The three designers in the team are eager to get to work with an experienced colleague with new insights.

You and your team ensure that the roadmap is translated into validated, executable, high quality designs that our developers are eager to sink their teeth into. You not only like to talk about design but you also can’t stay away from it yourself. Within this role, we are looking for a designer who, in addition to being the team lead, is also a designer at heart and can’t help but contribute in that area.

You will be an important part of the development process. You are in close contact with the product manager, developers, QA and designers and other colleagues but of course the end user itself is central in everything you do. You know how to reach them and involve them in the design and validation process.

You also keep an eye on the market and the design world, and take what you learn there to your team and into your own designs. With all this, you build a vision of what the platform should look like, and what kind of team and people you think you need to get this done in the best possible way.

As a result of your and your team’s work, the aNewSpring platform is and will always be a joy to work and to learn in.

Who are you?

You’re an experienced designer who’s allergic to a bad interface. Aside from that, you are a leader and coach who gets energy from educating and inspiring other designers. You love tackling cool projects, dissecting complex interfaces and solving design puzzles. You prefer to do this with other creatives, and know how to get good ideas and insights from everyone through user testing and creative sessions.

You are/have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant design experience;
  • A relevant UI/UX design related education;
  • A portfolio that you can show us;
  • Experience in leading and coaching a (design) team;
  • Experience with agile and SCRUM;
  • Excellent English communication skills;
  • Structured and able to manage multiple projects at the same time;
  • Not averse to having your administration in order;
  • Experience with Sketch and Invision.

Do you recognize yourself in (most of) these points? Let’s talk!

What do we have to offer?

  • Autonomy to make your work really your work;
  • Lots of flexibility in working hours and location;
  • Do-it-yourself retirement savings, with professional advice;
  • 25 vacation days;
  • Salary according to the Baarda salary scale as a core specialist (€3546,- – €5065,- per month);
  • Laptop;
  • And finally, a great workplace in the heart of Rotterdam with the best view, lunch and table tennis.

Who are you going to work with:

During our weekly ‘Power Hour’ we share our designs and give each other feedback. This helps everybody improve their designs and increases the consistency throughout our platform!

In the design team, we are always working together in a fun way to bring both the product and the processes around it to the next level. Besides that, aNewSpring always gives me the freedom to further explore my field and the possibility to grow in it. This suits me and the culture we have within aNewSpring.
