New within aNewSpring: Conditional course parts

Sometimes, you only want a student to go to the next course part if he has enough knowledge. This condition makes sure that a student doesn’t get trapped in difficult parts of the course. From now on it’s possible to add a condition to a course part by using conditional course parts. On December 8th, the beta version went live. This means that particular course parts are only visible when a condition is fulfilled.

Possibilities

Using conditional course parts can have different goals. For example, it’s possible to make a course part available on a certain date. This process is now fully automatic and can’t be forgotten anymore. It’s also possible to make a conditional course part adapt to the student. For example, a course part can be made available when a student achieves a certain score. The condition may be that a student’s score needs to be 80% or more to continue to the next course part. You can also think of a condition where a course part only becomes available when a student score is below 80%.  This course part is now only available to the students that need more practice on a certain subject. With this new development, a course automatically adjusts to the level and work pace of the student.

How does it work?

It’s easy to add a condition to a course part. The course developer can do this by editing a course part and click the new tab ‘conditions’.

When you click ‘add’ to add a condition, a screen pops up. You can now choose which condition you want to use. Only course developers are able to set conditions. However, also teachers are able to change to date of a condition.

It’s also possible to add more than one condition. This is useful when you want to make a course part available when a student scores above 80%, but after a certain date you want this course part to be available to every student. A course part has to meet with only one of the conditions to become available, that’s why you choose the relation to be OR instead of AND.

With this release there are a lot more possibilities when it comes to offering course parts to students. The use of conditional course parts also ensures that a course adapts to the students even more. Do you want to know more about this new feature?
